Osteopathy is a manual therapy based on bone or muscle manipulations, which lifts in particular the body’s joint blockages to enable it to function better. The osteopath uses techniques of pressure, elongation or torsion. For osteopaths, the structure of the body and its functions are interdependent. Thus, all parts of the body are connected to each other via the tissues. Within this framework, if one organ loses its mobility, this can have consequences on the others, and symptoms appear. It is therefore by manipulating certain parts of the body that osteopaths aim to restore the body’s proper balance. Osteopathy is often used for spinal, costal and joint pain, tendonitis, muscle pain and trauma, headaches, migraines and dizziness. The majority of practitioners are doctors and physiotherapists.
